Wrestling teams compete at IWCC
Blair Wrestling Club and Pioneer Wrestling Club (PWC) athletes recently competed during the 47th Annual Westside Championships on Dec. 18 at Iowa Western Community College.
Aiden Kubes, Aiden Maschman, Bennett Gossman, Olivia Nekolite and Baeli Gossman led their Fort Calhoun PWC lineup with first-place weight class finishes. Declan Wieczorek, Henry Jorgensen, Cache McNew, Dakota Cheloha and Beckah Gossman added second-place efforts, too.
PWC wrestlers Ethan Nichols, Wesson Pane, Zecheriah Combs, Abie Weber, Diesel Randall, Carter Doyle, Ledger Bernasek, Payton Hammond and Aundrea Gutierrez earned third as well.
Overall, 32 PWC wrestlers competed with 28 earning medals. The team was 11th out 37 teams, according to a club social media post.
For Blair, Jayden Maslowsky, Charley Cosentino, Joey Maslowsky and Thayer Johnson claimed second in their weight classes. Gabe Culver and Ty Cosentino were third, too.
The Blair Wrestling Club Tournament is Feb. 5 at Blair High School, while the Fort Calhoun Youth Wrestling Tourney is Feb. 25, according to trackwrestling.com.

Blair Basketball Club teams compete
Blair Basketball Club teams earned top finishes during December.
The Purple third-grade girls team went 3-0 during the Elkhorn Elite Girls Rule Tournament, claiming first-place honors Dec. 11. The seventh-grade White squad, meanwhile, went 2-1 to take home a silver medal.
Blair's seventh-grade Purple boys team went 5-0 during a Columbus tournament to claim gold medals, while the fifth-grade Purple squad was 3-0 during The Real Deal Holiday Jam Fest in Bellevue a week later, Dec. 18. The seventh-grade Purple girls team also won its Jam Fest division.
The Club's second-grade Purple boys basketball team earned gold in its first tournament, too. It claimed medals during the Dec. 16-18 Jewish Community Center Winter Mania event.
Blair's third-grade White girls teams took home gold medals from an Elkhorn tourney before Christmas, too.
Blair Basketball Club hosts its annual Hoopstock Classic tournaments on back-to-back weekends this month, Jan. 21-22 (boys) and Jan. 28-29 (girls). Thirty-six boys teams and 34 girls teams are already committed to compete, according to tourneymachine.com.
