Tristan Fuhrman hit a bases-clearing three-RBI double Monday during the second inning, but the Fort Calhoun Senior Legion baseball team still lost to Waterloo-Valley, 8-4.
The home loss was the Zig Drywall Post 348 Pioneers' second summer defeat to Valley. The first came by an 11-3 score June 8, but Monday's dropped coach Brandon Wynn's squad to 2-6 overall.
The visitors scored the game's first four runs before Fort Calhoun tied it with its own four-run bottom of the second inning. Zach Faucher led off with a single before both Harrison Schmitt and Avery Quinlan walked to load the bases.
From there, the Pioneers' Ty Hallberg was hit by a one-out, bases-loaded Valley pitch to push across the home squad's first run. Then, with the bases still full, Fuhrman hit the ball to the outfield and plated three runs, evening the score at 4-all.
Waterloo-Valley immediately took the lead back, however, during the top of the third frame. It led 5-4 and added three insurance runs during the top of the seventh.
Post 348 was unable to muster a second, four-run comeback during the all-or-nothing bottom half.
