Waterloo-Valley squeaks by Calhoun Seniors

Post 348 Legion team drops to 6-8

The Fort Calhoun Senior Legion baseball team didn't get the out call it wanted Tuesday during a 5-4 home loss to Waterloo-Valley.
His team ahead 4-3 with two outs during the top of the seventh inning, Post 348 third baseman Sam Genoways fielded a ground ball and appeared to tag a base runner for the game-ending out. The infield umpire saw it a different way than the hometown fans, though, as Waterloo-Valley tied the game at 4-all.
The guests scored the go-ahead run during the next at-bat as a Kenny Wellwood pitch got by Zig Drywall catcher Chase Premer. Calhoun's Andrew Namuth and AJ Duros reached base during the bottom half of the final inning, but a strikeout ended the game in Valley's favor.
Post 348 (6-8 overall) scored runs during the first, third and fifth innings Tuesday, holding leads of 3-1 and 4-3 before its eventual defeat. Wellwood plated the first on a sacrifice before Namuth supplied a run-scoring swing in the third. The latter Pioneer later scored on a passed ball for a two-run lead, too.
Calhoun's JT Mlnairk scored what had been the go-ahead run during the fifth frame as well. He singled, reached second base on a balk and scored when a pair of pick-off throws missed their mark.
Aiming for their seventh win of the season, the Zig Drywall Seniors were scheduled to play Ashland on Wednesday and next compete 6:30 p.m. today in South Dakota during a tourney in Harrisburg.
The Fort Calhoun Juniors, meanwhile, play at Louisville today in a 7 p.m. road game. They lost to Waterloo-Valley on Tuesday, 10-0.

Post 348 falls in Lincoln
Zig Drywall played Sunday in Lincoln and lost by run-rule, too. Lincoln Christian scored 11 fourth-inning runs and won 13-5 in five innings after Fort Calhoun attempted a comeback.
Genoways led Post 348's five-run fifth frame with two RBIs, while Charlie Boumstein and Carter Christensen had one apiece. Declyn Otte doubled during the loss, too, while Mlnarik struck out five batters during the pitching defeat.
The Calhoun Juniors lost their game with Lincoln Christian, too, 16-0.
