Washington County prep golf teams start seasons in early April

AHS, BHS and FCHS all call River Wilds home

League registration at River Wilds Golf Club ended Monday, according to the 18-hole Blair course's March newsletter.
Notably, the 2025 Master's Scramble is set for April 12, too.
Before the leagues begin or the Scramble, though, the high school season tees off for all three of River Wilds' Washington County home teams — Arlington, Blair and Fort Calhoun. Coaches Landon Walkenhorst, Ross Udey and Dustin Humphrey will all lead their lineups into early April starts.

Blair opens season April 8
Coach Udey's 20th BHS varsity boys golf season starts April 8.
The Bears open with a dual against Logan View at River Wilds. The first tee time of the 2025 campaign is set for 3 p.m.
Three golfers from last season's district lineup are expected to return for the new campaign. Justin Bird shot an 18-hole 102 during that tournament on BHS' home course, while Aaron Hinman carded 113 strokes and Degan Dresden shot a 118.
Bears Nolan Wolfe and Jack Schroeder return with some experience this season, too, according to Udey. The coach's goal for the new season is to see his players improve their short games. They'll get plenty of opportunities to practice their chipping and putting throughout the spring in hopes of that improvement, the coach stated within a preseason questionnaire.

FCHS has a young team
Udey still has nine seasons on him, but Coach Humphrey has led the Fort Calhoun program now for 11 seasons. This year, he has just three returning letter winners.
Adam Elofson is back after shooting a 101 during the Class B-2 District Tournament at River Wilds last spring. Beau Ruma returns, too, after shooting 104, while Caden Newman carded 113 strokes during the 2024 season-ending, 18-hole tournament.
While FCHS' roster is largely inexperienced, Humphrey is optimistic about the young talent coming into the season. He hopes they are hungry to compete.
The first official swings of the Pioneers' golf season are scheduled for April 3 at River Wilds. Calhoun is set to compete against Lyons-Decatur Northeast and Tekamah-Herman during the 3 p.m. triangular.

Arlington wants to build toward May
Like Calhoun, Coach Walkenhorst's third Arlington boys golf team lacks experience, too.
Nate Erwin and Johnathan Taylor were in the Eagles' lineup during districts last spring in Oakland, but they're unique in that regard. Senior Schuyler Logemann — a multi-sport athlete — has joined the team, while Walkenhorst is also looking forward to seeing what potential varsity newcomers Winston Slykhuis, Calvin Flesner, Jack Rosenbalm and Trenton Hanson can do.
AHS is scheduled to open the season with an Omaha Concordia dual on April 2 at River Wilds Golf Club. Play starts at 2:30 p.m.
