Washington County cowgirls Hailey O'Daniel, Laney Hoier and Alexa Cruikshank opened their National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) schedules earlier this week in Rock Springs, Wyo.
On Sunday, Cruikshank made her first of eight first- and second-go round attempts during the week-long rodeo at the Sweetwater Events Complex. The Arlington High School student was fourth in Sudnay's breakaway roping to start, stopping the clock in just 3.52 seconds.
Cruikshank then took 25th during Monday morning's pole vending performance in 25.87 seconds before securing 10th in Tuesday morning's barrel racing. She finished her first of two patterns this week in 18.98. The cowgirl was scheduled to make two goat-tying runs Wednesday, too, before events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well.
Hoier, meanwhile, made her first goat-tying run Monday night. The Herman cowgirl earned fifth during the performance, completing her run in 7.38 seconds. Last year's top-10 finisher makes her second goat-tying run today.
O'Daniel makes her second barrel racing run today in Rock Springs, too. The Arlington cowgirl was 11th during Monday night's performance, stopping the clock in 17.95. She was scheduled to make two pole bending runs on Wednesday, too.
The 10th and 11th NHSFR performances are today before the 12th Saturday morning. Then, on Saturday night, top-20 qualifiers will compete in a short-go finals round to determine the overall, belt-buckle and saddle winning champions.
Full rodeo results will appear in Tuesday's Washington County Pilot-Tribune edition.
