The Arlington High School volleyball season ended Monday after just one win and 26 losses this fall.
The Eagles beat Omaha Westview during a Raymond Central tournament on Oct. 1, but lost their season finale during the Class C1-4 District Tourney at North Bend Central. Wahoo (18-15 overall) beat coach Stacy Nelson's squad 25-11, 25-11 and 25-15, concluding the prep careers of seniors Emma Misfeldt and Ryann Kirschmann.
“I think we had fun at the points where we were doing our best,” said Misfeldt, a libero. “We are always a little inconsistent with our energy. But when we had it up, it was really fun to be on the court.”
The Eagles scored the first points of both the first and second sets before even managing a 10-9 lead during the third.
“It was really fun to see our bench having a good time, and chanting and cheering for us,” Misfeldt said.
AHS notched the first point of the postseason match with a block at the net. Sophomore Peyton Timm's service ace pulled her team within 6-3, too, but the Warriors eventually pulled away.
Izzy Nuss notched a late kill and ace for the Eagles, but it was too little too late in the first set.
Arlington junior Lizzie Meyer then registered a kill to start the second set and added another to push the Eagles out front, 4-1. Wahoo responded with five-straight points, though, and led from there, winning by 14 points for the second consecutive race to 25.
AHS played its most competitive volleyball during the the third, though. Freshman Emme Timm scored the Eagles' first point at 3-1 before adding two aces during the 8-8 start.
Meyer beat a block for a kill during the opening stretch, too, before Taylor Arp's kill evened the score at 9-9. An out of bounds Warrior hit gave coach Nelson's squad a 10-9 advantage — it's last lead of the season.
Though Arlington struggled to win sets during the season, both Misfeldt and Kirchmann were able to offer positives taken from their final falls in Eagle colors. Kirschmann said she enjoyed putting together the team's bench chants for aces, kills and blocks.
“I feel like coming up with those was the highlight,” the senior explained.
The chants brought the team together, she offered.
“I enjoyed my team,” Misfeldt said. “I thought we had a great group of people just to hang with whether on the bus rides or in the van. I'm just happy to take away that I had four years with them.”
The AHS volleyball season offered a life lesson, too.
“That your attitude affects everything,” Kirschmann said, capping her volleyball career.
