An 18-year-old Blair High School graduate made her first appearance in court Tuesday after being arrested in connection with a stabbing death in Omaha on Sunday.

Kianna Opal is being charged with first-degree murder, a Class 1A felony, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a Class 2 felony, in the killing of 17-year-old Ezra Sinkiawic.

Opal is being held without bond.

Opal's next court appearance is scheduled for July 1 for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. in the Douglas County Courthouse.

Police were called to an Omaha residence at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, according to the initial police report. Once on the scene, police were told by witnesses that Sinkiawic had been taken to Nebraska Medical Center by a private vehicle after being stabbed. The police report indicated that Sinkiawic "did not survive her injuries."

Witnesses told police that the person who allegedly stabbed Sinkiawic — identified as Opal — was still on scene, the police report stated. She was taken into custody without incident and charged with criminal homicide and use of a weapon, according to the police report.
