Unified Sports teams from Arlington, Blair, Fort Calhoun and Douglas County West converged and participated Thursday during Games on the Green at Bennington High School.
The second annual event allowed for “individuals with disabilities in grades sixth and above to participate in Unified games and activities while getting to socialize with students from the area,” said Fort Calhoun Community Schools Special Education Director Ashley Dougherty.
The athletes participated in events involving bocce, bean bags, a wiffle ball, relay races and duck, duck, goose on the Bennington football field. All students then capped the festivities with a game of freeze tag.
Unified athletes from Blair participated in track and field last spring, while Fort Calhoun students played basketball and ran track. Arlington, meanwhile, has had representation at the NSAA State Swimming & Diving Championships in recent years.
On Sept. 29, the Fort Calhoun Unified Flaig Football Team plays at Ashland-Greenwood. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
