Fort Calhoun Unified Flag Football team wins its debut

Fort Calhoun's latest foray into Special Olympics Unified Sports came to fruition Friday evening at Ashland-Greenwood High School.
Before the varsity Pioneers faced the Bluejays on the same field, the Fort Calhoun Unified Flag Football team debuted and bested the home team, 14-7. Kameron Pringle scored the winning touchdown with just 3:06 left in the second half, racing down the field on a long run.
The Pioneers led 7-0 after the first half, too, with coaches Rance Johnson and Mindy Otte leading the way in each huddle.
Fort Calhoun Community Schools has ramped up its Unified Sports participation in the past year, adding a basketball team and the flag football squad. They previously and continue to compete in track and field, too, giving young athletes with disabilities a chance to compete alongside their partners in events like Friday evening's in Ashland.
