AHS competes at Platteview meet
Arlington High School's track and field meet at Platteview ended a bit early Thursday afternoon.
Rain started to fall as Hailey O'Daniel and Corinne May ran the 1,600-meter foot race and ended the day's invite just after the event's finish. Fifteen of the 17 girls events were completed, while 14 of the 17 boys events were contested before the early ending.
The Eagles finished fourth in the girls' team standings, while the boys took sixth. Whitney Wollberg (400-meter dash and pole vault), Dallin Franzluebbers (300 hurdles) and Hayley Arp (shot put) won events for coach Kyle Buckingham's team.
Full results and more photos will appear in Friday's Washington County Enterprise edition.
Blair takes 2nd, 3rd at Schuyler invite
Field events were off the table Thursday during the Fred Arnold Invite in Schuyler.
The weather prevented them from happening.
So, the Blair track and field team's sprinters, middle and distance runners, and hurdlers alone produced a second-place boys finish and a third-place result in the girls' standings. They scored 78 and 72 points apiece, finishing behind the meet champion Columbus Lakeview boys (93 points) and the Wahoo girls (83).
Hayden Daggett, Colin McCabe, Declan McCabe and 400-meter relay lineup led the boys' team with event wins. Daggett, a standout junior, won the 100-meeter dash in 11.27 seconds and the 800 in 2:04.6.
Colin McCabe added a win in the 400 in 52.24, while his brother, Declan, scored a first-place finish in the 1,600 in 4:53.1.
Colin McCabe and Daggett also joined Jackson Barta and Brooks Ray for the 400 relay win in 44:36.
On the girls' side, Blair's Brynn Lundgren picked up two event wins. The sprinter stopped the clock in 12.82 seconds to win the 100-meter dash before adding a 26.93 first-place finish in the 200.
Emma Himes won the 3,200 run in 13:14.22, too, while the 3,200 relay squad crossed the finish line in 10:32.31 for its own first-place result. The relay runners were Ryleigh Schroeter, Kate Wulf, Lainey Bilau and Lucy Lindau.
Blair next hosts its Mike Lehl Invitational on Thursday at Krantz Field. Field events start at 10 a.m., provided they aren't called off due to the weather as they were in Schuyler.
