Much like how Enterprise Media Group does today, the Arlington Citizen published Athlete of the Week honors in 1990.
In December of that year, David Gnuse of the AHS wrestling team was a recipient. He earned first at the Wayne Invitational and stood at 9-2 for the season.
“Dave is a hard-working senior who sets an outstanding example for our younger wrestlers,” Eagles coach Keith Fink said. “We knew he would have a good season because of his attitude and self-discipline.”
The wrestler was one of five Arlington competitors to medal in Wayne. Matt Gnuse, Matt Thompson, Brad Warner and Charlie Raymond also claimed top-four finishes.
Arlington basketball players Matt Royuk and Marcy Grefe were Athlete of the Week alternates that week, too. They excelled in games against Tekamah-Herman.
