The Arlington and Fort Calhoun volleyball teams capped their seasons Monday during Class C1 Subdistrict play.
Both the Eagles and Pioneers won first-round matches, but lost to their top-seeded hosts. FCHS first beat Falls City 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-8) in the C1-1 Tournament before a three-set loss to Omaha Concordia.
After a 1-1 split to start, the Pioneers’ Claire Pearson delivered an ace serve to end the third set in her team’s favor. Jovi Grenier later scored match point on a kill, too.
Against the Mustangs, though, Calhoun couldn’t overcome. It lost the first set 25-16 before the 25-18 second and the 25-9 third.
FCHS’ seniors — Ari Nelson, Gracie Lasher, Grenier, Ella Bouwman, Ali Dill, Maelie Nelson and Sophie Weeks — ended their final season with a winning record, 18-13.
“The seniors were freshman when I started,” coach Liz Sevcik said. “They’ve worked hard this whole time and helped us build Fort Calhoun volleyball.”
In Leigh, though, Arlington beat Winnebago in a five-set match before falling to Clarkson/Leigh in the Class C1-5 Subdistrict. The Eagles won the opener despite losing their 2-0 lead.
Coach Erin Stosich’s team beat Winnebago 25-7, 25-10, 23-25, 25-27 and 15-5.
Next, however, AHS lost against the host Patriots 25-19, 25-12 and 25-18.
The Eagles finished the season 9-21 overall.
