STATE XC UPDATE: AHS’ O’Daniel wins Class C title

FCHS boys take 5th, while Wickwire leads Blair Bears

Arlington High School senior Hailey O’Daniel earned her fourth-straight Class C medal Friday during the NSAA State Cross-Country Championships in Kearney.
This time, it was gold.
The Eagle won the girls’ 5-kilometer run in 19:26.1, overtaking Columbus Scotus freshman Avery Heinrich down the final stretch. The individual championship victory was AHS’ fourth in school history.
Another Eagle, Kolby Tighe, finished sixth individually at Kearney Country Club in 16:56.91. He led the eighth-place Arlington boys team at state, which also included John Morrison (28th), Ashton Vollmer (39th), Brayden Fuchs (100th), Gus Burns (103rd) and Ethan Hilgenkamp (106th).
Eagles freshman Corinne May also made her state debut, taking 30th.
Fort Calhoun and Blair runners competed in Kearney on Friday, too.

FCHS boys take 5th
The Fort Calhoun boys earned Washington County’s top team finish Friday, securing fifth in Class C.
Chris Post-Whiteowl led the effort, finishing 27th in 17:29.6. Merritt Olberding was 29th, too, while Will Dennis claimed 35th and Seth Waters was 48th. Seniors Travis Skelton and Matthew Kelly earned 63rd and 65th, respectively.
On the girls’ side, Lauren Lammers was 45th and Raeann Massey earned 69th for the Pioneers.

Wickwire leads Blair
Senior Jade Wickwire led the Blair Bears in Class B, earning a 29th-place finish in 20:33.7.
The result was the 11th-place BHS girls’ best.
Ryen Anderson, meanwhile, was 58th and Kate Wulf took 67th just ahead of 68th-place Emma Himes.
Ryleigh Schroeter took 74th across 5K, while Nadia Davey was 79th.
On the boys’ side, Bears Roland Barondeau and Lane Christensen took 72nd and 74th, respectively.
