Top-seeded Central City/Centura earned a 9-6 state baseball win against Fort Calhoun on Monday at Tal Anderson Field in Omaha.
The loss dropped the Pioneers to 1-1 during the NSAA Class C State Championships tournament after last Saturday’s win against Lincoln Christian. Now, coach Roy Prauner’s team will play the Crusaders again 4 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke Field in Papillion during an elimination game.
FCHS (18-7 overall) fell behind the 23-1 Kernels 6-1 through three innings Monday, but pulled back within 7-6 midway through the fifth frame on RBI swings by Charlie Boumstein, Presley Olberding, Sam Genoways and Chase Premer.
The Pioneers’ Rocco Roma scored on a passed ball, too.
In the end, though, Central City added two more runs and advanced onto the semifinals round. They’ll play either FCHS or Lincoln Christian on Wednesday at 10 a.m. on Fricke Field.
