The Blair High School softball season ended Thursday with a 15-10 loss to Waverly at the NSAA Class B State Softball Championships in Hastings.
Coach Jennifer Fangmeier’s Bears finished their tourney run 1-2 and 27-10 overall.
BHS junior Laynie Brown hit two home runs against the Vikings during the elimination game, but Waverly hit seven total with a steady wind blowing softballs beyond the outfield fence. The Bears led 4-3 before their opposition notched three long balls during the top of the fourth frame.
Blair later pulled within 7-6 with Brown’s first homer during the bottom half, but the Vikings kept adding to their run total.
Down 12-6 in the sixth inning, the Bears’ Mia McClain cut the deficit to five runs with an RBI double.
Then, back down 15-7 in the seventh, Brown hit a second homer, scoring Hannah Heuton, Emmi Hall and herself to reach the final tally.
Blair’s state qualification was the school’s fourth-straight and 17th overall. The 2025 team won the Class B-4 District Tournament, the Blair Invite and a Lincoln Southeast Invite pool. It will graduate seniors Claire Anderson, Heuton, Jacy Scheuth, Abby Leggott and manager Ruby Petersen.
