Class of 2020 Fort Calhoun High School graduate Grant Hansen will be the radio voice of the Omaha Supernovas volleyball team this upcoming season.
The Professional Volleyball Federation champion Supernovas, returning for their second season at the CHI Health Center this January, announced the move Monday. Hansen will serve as Walnut Media USA's play-by-play announcer, while Omaha Skutt volleyball coach Renee Saunders returns as the commentator. Overall coverage will encompass five states, though the primary stations in the Omaha area are KCRO 660 AM, KOBM 106.7 FM, and KXCB 106.5 FM and 1420 AM.
Hansen started his broadcasting career at FCHS, announcing Pioneers events and more. He moved onto the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, announcing several high school and college contests on the radio and for television.
The Supernovas open the season Jan. 10 at home against the Atlanta Vibe. While Blair High School volleyball coach Jess Lansman is no longer on the active roster, former Nebraska Cornhuskers Briana Holman, Kaitlyn Hord and Kayla Caffey now are. Former Creighton Bluejay Allison Whitten is, too.
Big game meetings set across state
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host 10 public big game information meetings across the state this winter. They begin Monday in Valentine and continue through 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in Ashland at the Public Library, 1324 Silver St.
The 2.5-hour meetings will open as an open house with time for attendees to speak with wildlife biologists, conservation officers and staff. Biologists will then make their presentations at 7 p.m., discussing big game harvest results and season structure.
“Then they will take questions on topics such as big game management, depredation, permits, antlerless harvest, trophy management and diseases,” according to a Game and Parks release.
Monday's Valentine meeting is at the Niobrara Lodge before next Wednesday's meeting in O'Neil. Other stops include Columbus (Dec. 16), North Platte (Dec. 18), Geneva (Jan. 2), Arapahoe (Jan. 6), Kimball (Jan. 7), Kearney (Jan. 8) and Superior (Jan. 13).
The Ashland meeting concludes the state tour. Two additional online Zoom video meetings are set for 7 p.m. Jan. 12 and Jan. 14. Interested attendees can register for meetings online at calendar.outdoornebraska.gov.
