Longtime Blair High School football coach Bryan Soukup announced Thursday he is stepping down from the position.
“I look forward to the next chapter of my life and spending more time with my wife and family,” the coach wrote on social media. “I am grateful for all the players and coaches I have had the pleasure to be around … and for all the support of the Blair Football community.”
A Dana College graduate and former Vikings quarterback, Soukup — who also leads the Bears' track team — coached football at BHS for 25 years. He spent the last 11 as head coach, taking over the program from Darren Harsin ahead of the 2014 season.
Altogether, Soukup was 53-58 during his head coaching tenure in Blair. The Bears notched six winning seasons and reached the Class B playoffs eight times in 11 years. They won four playoff games, too, with the coach’s son, Bode Soukup — a current Nebraska football walk-on — leading the 2023 team to its most recent postseason victory as quarterback.
Soukup’s elder son Brady played under him, too, earning a Nebraska Shrine Bowl roster spot and playing at Concordia University after his time at BHS.
