Post 154 loses pair in Columbus

The Blair Senior Legion baseball team dropped to 16-13 overall Saturday with a pair of losses to Post 84 Cornerstone in Columbus.
Cornerstone won the first game of the doubleheader 9-7 after the winning run scored on a wild pitch during the sixth inning, according to Columbus' stat-keeping. The matchup had been tied 7-7 since the top of the fifth inning when Post 154 eliminated its one-run deficit.
The teams combined to score 12 runs during the second inning with Cornerstone coming back from a 6-1 deficit during the bottom half with six of its own runs.
The Columbus team broke another tie during the second game, too. It scored four runs during the bottom of the fifth inning to break the 2-all tie and won, 6-2.
Blair was scheduled to face Plattsmouth on Monday and next competes 5:30 and 8 p.m. today against Omaha Westview teams. The doubleheader is set for Vets Field.

Fort Calhoun sweeps Plattsmouth
The Fort Calhoun Senior Legion baseball swept a Saturday doubleheader against Plattsmouth, 8-7 and 10-2.
The back-to-back victories pushed Zig Drywall Post 348's season record to 18-13 overall.
Coach Jerry Wellwood's team started with an eighth-inning walk-off. Logan Schwab moved Sam Genoways from second to third base first before Charlie Boumstein notched the game-winning RBI.
Then, during the eight-run second victory, Calhoun's Nathan Kramer starred. He helped his team win by run rule in six innings with a 3-for-3 night at the plate with three doubles, according to GameChanger stat-keeping.
On July 8, Zig Drywall picked up its 16th win of the season, too, besting Waterloo-Valley at home, 8-3. It scored three second-inning runs, one in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead.
The Wingnuts pulled within four runs, 7-3, briefly, but Calhoun stretch its advantage back out to five when Chase Premer doubled and was driven in by Thad Kowal.
Genoways, meanwhile, earned Fort Calhoun's pitching win.
