The Blair High School girls basketball team fell short during the Class B-5 District Final on Saturday, while four Blair swimmers medaled at the state meet in Lincoln.
Hoops season ends
The Bears lost their B-5 Final to Bennington, 55-33.
Senior Addie Sullivan scored a team-best 18 points, the but the Badgers outscored BHS 18-5 during the third period, turning a three-point advantage into a 16-point lead going into the final 8 minutes.
Blair closes the season 15-11. It’s only the second time since 1998 the Bears have earned 15 wins in a single season.
4 swimmers earn state medals
Blair High School swimmers Jacob Hanson, Kennedy Zehner, Jane Busboom and Ryleigh Schroeter all left the NSAA State Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday with state medals.
Hanson, Busboom and Schroeter notched four top-8 finishes apiece for their Fremont Tigers, while Zehner had two in relays with Busboom and Schroeter.
Hanson’s top individual finish came in the 50-yard freestyle. He took sixth in 21.84 seconds, while Schroeter was fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:19.22.
Busboom, meanwhile, earned fifth in the individual 100 backstroke in 58.88, too.
Altogether, though, Hanson’s 200 freestyle relay team took third before the 400 relay squad took fourth. The FHS boys earned fifth as an overall team, while the girls earned ninth.
