After a win against Tekamah-Herman during the first round, the Arlington Senior Legion baseball team's Ralph Bishop League (RBL) Tournament run was upended Tuesday by the West Point Bombers.
The host team jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings and held onto the margin, securing an 8-3 quarterfinals victory.
“They are a good team and capitalized on our errors,” Post 71 coach TJ Stosich said. “They always bring a lot of energy from their bench, which can be a difference-maker in big games.”
Arlington was able to pull within 5-3 with three runs across the fourth and fifth innings, but West Point answered the response with their own three runs during the bottom of the fifth frame.
“(Pitcher) Jackson (Stosich) threw well and Tyler (Ott) made a great catch at a pivotal point,” Coach Stosich said when asked for his squad's highlights.
Notably, Post 71 earned its spot in the RBL quarterfinals with an 11-3 win against Tekamah on Sunday. The game was originally set to be played in Pender, but rain forced it to Columbus, where the Eagles picked up their fourth win of the summer season.
Ott was victorious on the mound after Arlington jumped out to a 7-0 lead with seven first-inning runs. He plated the first two runs on a bases-loaded double before Luke Ott picked up an RBI as well.
Ahead 4-0 after a wild pitch, Wes Monke and Tanner Kyllo both drew bases-loaded walks. Luke Sharp then pushed Jackson Stosich across home plate for Post 71's seventh run of the bottom half of the opening frame.
Tekamah scored three of its own runs during the third inning, but Coach Stosich's team added four runs in the fifth to end the game by run rule.
Arlington's focus next turns to Area Tournament play. The Area 4 Junior Legion Tournament starts July 11 in Wahoo.
