Post 348 Seniors drop storm-shortened game to Valparaiso

Pioneers fall 4-3 in 5 innings

Valparaiso's Senior Legion baseball comeback came just in time Tuesday in Fort Calhoun.
Trailing the Zig Drywall Post 348 Pioneers 3-0 through four innings, the road team scored four runs during the top of the fifth frame.
Unfortunately for coach Brandon Wynn's home squad, the last two innings — its opportunity to retake the lead — were called off by a storm. Fort Calhoun lost 4-3 in five complete.
The Pioneers built their initial scoreboard advantage with two runs during the first frame and another in the third. Sam Halford and Zach Faucher notched two-out RBI singles first after Tristan Fuhrman and Sam Genoways earned their way on base during the opening inning.
Halford added a second RBI single during the third with Genoways on base again.
The 3-0 advantage didn't stick, though. Valparaiso took the lead in the fifth and left the field winners after a handful of Fort Calhoun pitches during the top of the sixth inning.
From there, the teams went home as lightning and rain traveled over Washington County.
