Post 154 Seniors sweep visitors from Scottsbluff

Blair outscores road team 17-5 during doubleheader

Posted

After a rare stretch of four days without games, the Blair Senior Legion baseball team started its Friday night doubleheader against Scottsbluff a bit slow.
The road team scored two first inning runs, while the Post 154 Bears scored none at Vets Field.
Fortunes changed, though, and coach James Bilslend's team improved to 15-2 with a two-game sweep of the Westco Zephyrs from western Nebraska. Blair won the opener 9-5 before an 8-0 run-rule victory in the nightcap.
Post 154 broke open a 3-3 tie during the first game with a four-run fourth inning. Dylan Swanson led off the productive frame with a triple. He then scored on a passed ball before Lucas Matejka did the same for a 5-3 advantage.
The next Blair run scored on a balk before Nelson Kosch's infield RBI single. Tanner Jacobson, Carter Saylor, Matejka, Owen Mann and he ultimately finished the four-run victory with RBIs. Greyson Kay, Lee Chavez-Lara and Saylor all registered two hits apiece, too.
Chavez-Lara earned the pitching win as well, striking out six batters across 6 1/3 innings. Colton Flynn came on to earn the last two outs of the win, too.
Matejka struck out six Scottsbluff batters across five innings, which is how long the second game went after Post 154 notched eight runs.
Brady Brown and Swanson each finished the 8-0 win with two RBIs, while Jacobson, Nate Wachter, Chavez-Lara and Saylor had one apiece. Kosch and Jackson Livingston each stole bases, too.
The Blair Seniors were scheduled to play Saturday as well, but the game was called off due to wet field conditions in Ralston. They now next compete 8 p.m. today at Vets Field against Plattsmouth.
