The Blair Junior Legion baseball team lost its first game of the Class B state tournament Saturday in Gering.
Ahead 6-4 going into the bottom half of the seventh inning, McCook notched three runs for a 7-6 victory. The winning run scored when a Post 154 pitch hit a batter with the bases loaded.
Coach Sean Munger's Blair team started the state tourney fast, though, scoring two runs during the top of the first inning. Jaxon Logan made it across home plate on Landon Bernasek's single first. Then, after a Colton Scheer single, Bernasek stole home with teammate Lane Christensen in the batter's box.
The 2-0 lead held until the bottom of the fourth frame when McCook earned a brief 3-2 advantage.
Post 154 gathered the lead back with three runs during the sixth inning. It led until its first-round opponent evened the score — and eventually won the game — during the final frame.
Blair was scheduled for a Sunday elimination game against Hickman, too. Results for it and any additional games the team may play in Gering will appear in Friday's edition of the Washington County Enterprise.
