The Fort Calhoun boys wrestling dual lineup went 1-3 Saturday during the Rumble in River Country in Nebraska City.
Coach Drew Welchert's Pioneers — who earned second two days earlier in Yutan — were 0-2 in Pool B competition before earning a 1-1 mark to claim second out of three teams in the Bronze bracket. Overall, FCHS was eighth with Waverly, Plattsmouth and Elkhorn Mount Michael taking first through third, respectively.
The Pioneers lost duals to the second-place Blue Devils, 68-8, as well as Nebraska City (58-24) and Falls City (42-40). They beat, however, Platteview — 48-36.
Presley Olberding, Levi Lasher, TJ DeMilt and Lucas Demilt all secured contested victories against the Trojans. Olberding pinned Jax Brandt in 1:37 at 132 pounds, while Lasher took 2:54 to best Gabe Bruno at 138.
Both DeMilts earned pins, too.
Altogether, Merritt Olberding led FCHS in Nebraska City with a 3-0 record at 120 pounds. He had two pins and at 9-0 major decision win against Plattsmouth's Mylus Robison.
Ultimately, the Pioneers' Lucas DeMilt (two wins), Kasyn Storm (one), Presley Olberding (three), Lasher (two), Seth Waters (two), TJ DeMilt (one), Trey King (one) and Nathan Duros (one) all notched contested wins during the dual tournament even as their team won just once.
Pioneers take 2nd at Yutan
Lasher won his weight class Thursday, too, leading his FCHS team to a second-place team finish during the Yutan Invitational.
Coach Welchert's Pioneers wound up just 5.5 points out of first place. Lincoln Christian, which is coached by Calhoun graduate Collin Mink among others, won the event.
The hometown Chieftains — who are coached by another FCHS grad, Taylor Teeter, and others — were third behind the Pioneers by 10.5 points, too.
Lasher, however, was 3-0 at 138 pounds, securing his individual title by second-period pin against Yutan's Anthony Jessen. The Calhoun senior won his first match by 24-second pin and his second by 13-5 major decision.
Additionally, Pioneers Merritt Olberding, Presley Olberding, TJ DeMilt, Alex Schuler and Duros all took second in their weight classes at Yutan. Merritt Olberding went 2-1 at 120 pounds, while Presley Olberding and DeMilt earned the same records at 126 and 157 pounds, respectively.
