The Fort Calhoun baseball team played on back-to-back days and went 1-1.
The Pioneers lost to Class C No. 3 Plattsmouth on Thursday, 11-1, but bounced back with a 13-4 win at Louisville on Friday. Coach Roy Prauner's team is 2-1 overall.
FCHS started its nine-run victory against the Lions with a three-run first inning. Kenny Wellwood hit a one-out single before Sam Genoways plated him with an RBI double.
Sam Halford then scored Genoways for a 2-0 advantage. Chase Premer followed up the score with a single and Carter Christensen knocked him in for an early advantage the Pioneers would never give up.
Halford finished with three RBIs for the game, while Wellwood notched three of Calhoun's 13 total hits against Louisville. Pitcher Eli Tinkham threw five innings, allowing just three hits and no earned runs, too.
Plattsmouth, meanwhile, beat the Pioneers in five innings a day earlier with 10 unanswered runs during the fourth and fifth frames. The Blue Devils improved to 1-1 after turning a 5-1 lead into a victory by run-rule in the fifth.
Fort Calhoun trailed 1-0 after one inning, two innings and three before tying the score during the top of the fourth frame. With two outs and Halford on base, Alex Christensen prolonged the inning with a walk, bringing up Premer. The catcher proceeded to hit a run-scoring single to centerfield, pulling coach Prauner's team even.
The tie game didn't last long in Plattsmouth, though, as the Devils scored the next 10 runs during 1.5 innings.
FCHS was scheduled to play Douglas County West on Monday and next competes 5:15 p.m. Thursday against Arlington. The Nebraska Capitol Conference game is a home game for the Pioneers.
