Emma Ochoa-Gomez and Madi Larrick won individual titles Saturday as the Fort Calhoun girls wrestling team earned fifth during the 11-team Pat & Pisale Invite at Omaha Northwest.
Ochoa-Gomez was 3-0 in contested matches at 100 pounds, pinning all three of her opponents. While two of the three falls were earned in less than 60 seconds, the third against 14-13 Nebraska City wrestler Ali Bohl came during the third period at the 4:37 mark.
Larrick, meanwhile, was 5-0 with four pins at 130 pounds to win her weight class. The Pioneer bested Nebraska City's Jocelyn Davis twice, including one by pin in the first-place match. Their first meeting, however, went to overtime with the FCHS wrestler claiming victory by ultimately tiebreaker.
In addition to its first-place finishes, Calhoun secured one second-place showing and two third-place results. Annaleigh McLaughlin went 4-1 at 105 pounds for runner-up honors, while Ali Dill and Beckah Gossman went 2-1 and 3-1 in contested matches, respectively, to earn third in their divisions.
Pioneers Kendall Magana-Torres and Lydia Kmitta added a fourth and fifth-place individual finish Saturday at Omaha Northwest, too.
After some time off from competition, Fort Calhoun returns to it Saturday at Nebraska City.
Pioneers compete at Malcolm
Before their stop at Northwest, the Fort Calhoun girls wrestled Friday at Malcolm, earning 11th out of 24 teams during the invite.
Gossman led the Pioneers with a second-place finish at 145 pounds. She earned three first-period pins before dropping her finals match to Lincoln High's Isabel Reyes-Castillo.
Larrick, meanwhile, earned third at 130 pounds for FCHS. She was 4-1, bouncing back from a semifinals loss to Arlington's Callee Shearer with back-to-back wins against Lincoln Southeast's Maia Ruben and Palmyra's Kara Dunkin.
At 125 pounds, Dill went 3-2 for fourth. She had a pin, a 3-0 decision and a 10-0 major decision on the day.
Pioneers Ochoa-Gomez (two wins at 100 pounds), McLaughlin (two at 105), Magana-Torres (one at 120) and Anna Rae Hartline (two at 135) added contested victories in Malcolm as well, but fell short of the podium.
