The Class C No. 5 Fort Calhoun baseball team capped its regular season slate by getting back to its winning ways.
Pitchers Kenny Wellwood and Chase Bierman combined for a no-hitter as the Pioneers beat Falls City at home, 3-0. After an 0-2 weekend, coach Roy Prauner's squad now enters district tournament play 15-6 overall.
FCHS was to host Aurora on Thursday to start Class C District 3 Tournament competition before today's final against either Lincoln Lutheran or Twin River. An official start time was unavailable as of press time.
Against Falls City, Wellwood threw five innings, walking two batters and striking out four. Bierman took over for the last two frames, walking two more and striking out three more for the save.
Offensively, the Pioneers scored one third-inning run and two more during the sixth. Catcher Chase Premer went 1-for-3, plating two runs while Alex Christensen was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Charlie Boumstein doubled, too, while Eric Koterba, Wellwood and Bierman also logged hits.
