Senior Grayson Bouwman sets new school mark in defeat

Senior Grayson Bouwman became Fort Calhoun High School's all-time leading scorer, but his shorthanded Pioneers squad still lost to Class C1 No. 4 Omaha Concordia on Tuesday, 64-43.
The home hoops loss without starter Colby Bentley dropped coach TJ O'Connor's squad to 10-3 overall, while the Mustangs — led by 6-foot-10 senior Quientan McCafferty's 21 points — improved to 10-1.
Bouwman, meanwhile, surpassed 2008 FCHS graduate Tony Sprick as the Pioneers' top scorer Tuesday with 16 points. He has 1,260 total for his career, according to assistant coach Mark Bouwman — his father.
The returning all-state player set the new school mark without scoring a first-quarter point against Concordia. Instead, Travis Skelton, Adam Elofson and Eli Tinkham combined for 13 points to keep the game even at 13-all after 8 minutes.
Skelton, a junior, scored eight of the Pioneers' first-period points. He made two 3-pointers and finished the full, four-quarter game with 12 points overall.
The Mustangs, however, seized control of the contest with a 20-9 third period. They then outscored Calhoun 17-9 during the fourth for a 21-point win.
