The Class C No. 3 Fort Calhoun baseball team lost back-to-back games Friday and Saturday.
With Monday's regular season finale and the Class C District 3 Tournament looming, the Pioneers are 14-6 after tight games with No. 7 Lincoln Christian and Omaha Concordia. In their most recent game, they lost to the Concordia Mustangs at home, 4-1.
Sam Genoways plated FCHS' lone run during the fifth inning Saturday, finishing 1-for-4 with a double. Kenny Wellwood was 2-for-4 in defeat, too, while Alex Christensen went 2-for-3.
Genoways also pitched for the Pioneers against Concordia, striking out four batters across 6 1/3 innings.
Coach Roy Prauner's team — after Monday's game against Falls City — is set to begin its district hosting duties Thursday. Fort Calhoun first plays fourth-seeded Aurora at 4 p.m. before Lincoln Lutheran plays Twin River at 6:30. Friday's championship game start time is to be determined, according to the official NSAA bracket.
Pioneers fall in Lincoln
The Pioneers played late into the night last Friday, too.
As 11 p.m. approached, Lincoln Christian earned the walk-off home win, 3-2. It improved to 10-5 with the victory.
Fort Calhoun trailed 2-0 from the first inning on, scoring one run during the fourth inning before tying the game with another in the seventh. Eli Tinkham reached base to start the top half of the final frame before Presley Olberding bunted him over to the second bag.
After a strikeout, FCHS' Chase Bierman tallied an RBI single, extending the game — but not for long. He had two hits during the road loss, while Wellwood, Christensen and Eric Koterba had one apiece. Tinkham plated the Pioneers' first run of the game, too.
Levi Lasher pitched six innings for Coach Prauner, striking out nine batters.
