Top-ranked Wahoo scored one more touchdown with 7 seconds left in Friday night's football game in Fort Calhoun.
A Warrior fell on a Pioneer's fumble in the end zone, stood up and spiked the ball, drawing multiple penalty flags from the officials. It ended a long night for Class C1 No. 7 FCHS, which lost 57-7.
Coach Zach Byrd's team dropped to 6-2 in defeat, while Wahoo improved to 8-0. Both teams have one regular season game yet to play with the Pioneers set to host 5-3 Douglas County West on Friday.
Calhoun actually got off to a positive start against the Warriors, though. It scored the lone points of the opening quarter when Kenny Wellwood disrupted a Wahoo punt returner's attempt to haul in the kick off of a bounce. It sprung loose and FCHS junior Jayson Reynolds jumped on it in the north end zone for a 6-0 lead. Chase Bierman's extra-point kick made it 7-0.
That was the last lead the home team would hold, however, as the Warriors scored the next 57 points. Back Kip Brigham scored 30 of them, tallying second quarter, third quarter and fourth quarter running and receiving touchdowns.
Wahoo quarterback Jase Kaminski finished with three touchdown passes, too. Two were to Brigham, while the first covered four yards to Josh Fox during a 23-point second quarter, which produced a 23-7 halftime lead.
Altogether, the unbeaten Warriors produced 44 offensive points and 13 defensively against the Pioneers, who entered the game surrendering just 10.9 per game total through seven contests. Calhoun's offense, meanwhile, was held scoreless for the first time this fall.
