Savanah Roan earned a pin at 125 pounds Thursday, pulling the Blair High School girls wrestling team even with Missouri Valley, 6-6, at home.
From there, though, the Big Reds won the next seven contested matches. Even with four open weight classes, they won the dual, 54-30.
“They have a really good team,” Roan said.
Riley Martin, Isabella Matney, Josie Tilson and Ali Wheeler had their hands raised to mark forfeit victories, but the senior 125-pounder was the only Bear to earn her six team points by pin. She stopped Missouri Valley's Zoey Davis in 2:38.
“I really had to stay on my defense tonight,” Roan said. “She kept trying to shoot.”
The BHS grappler waited out the attack, but went for the win during the second period.
“At some point, I just had to do something,” Roan explained. “I was kind of just sitting their the whole time.”
Her Bears — who were supposed to compete Saturday at the canceled Schuyler Invite — next compete Friday when coach Terry Bellamy's team hosts a 15-team tournament. Matches begin at 4:30 p.m.
