Meeting of the American Civics and Education Committee Wednesday, September 27, 2023 4:30 PM Office conference room of the secondary building ROUTINE BUSINESS Call to Order: Mr. Green called the meeting to order at 4:30 PM, and noted the Nebraska Open Meeting Laws Roll Call: Josh Christensen, Present; Cassie Kelly, Present; Ted Welchert, Present Approval of the Agenda REGULAR AGENDA-Public Participation: There were no visitors in attendance-Review Statute 79-724: The committee reviewed the statute, was shown samples of curriculum and had access to current textbooks. Mr. Green explained that the textbooks were new in 2020 and are aligned with state standards which meet the compliance standards in the statute.-Policy Review-Policy 5004 Resolution for 2024-25; Policy 5004R Option Capacity for 202425; Policy 3002-Deposits; 3003-Bidding for Construction, Remodeling, Repair of Site Improvement; 3004-General Purchasing: Policy 5004 R--the committee reviewed the current capacity limits and is recommending leaving them the same. The committee reviewed the remaining policies and is recommending no changes.-Special Education Staff Update: The committee discussed the possibility of adding two special education teachers to easy the extensive caseloads of our current special education teachers. The committee agreed to hiring one new special education teacher. It was discussed that rather than eliminate the 5-para position, the committee is recommending allowing the cost of those paras to be used to fill the teaching position and any para positions that could be hired with the remaining funds. The total amount of funds not to exceed $100,000. -Tour of the New Track and Field Area: Kelli Shaner passed on the tour because of another commitment. The others toured the new track and field area. The rubberized surface was being put down at that time. Electrical work was had been done around the timing system and the base of the two light poles had been poured. ProTech will continue with wiring and the surfacing will continue. The shed project is set to begin the weekend of September 30th. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 5:50 PM ZNEZ ENT 10-06-23
