Team USA wins Thursday night volleyball tourney

Senior Blair High School boys dressed up in costume and competed on the volleyball court Thursday to raise money for the Washington County Food Pantry at Joseph's Coat.
The National Honor Society's Macho Man Tournament is an annual event.
“This is about giving back to the community and having fun while doing it,” said Norah Cloudt, a recent Blair NHS inductee.
Junior Cailey Anderson further elaborated.
“National Honor Society is a club, so to speak, founded on community service and giving back to others,” she said. “So, through tonight, we're gathering free-will donations, be it nonperishable items or money.”
Both Cloudt and Anderson were collecting these donations at the door prior to Thursday's tournament.
“The food pantry focuses on helping out those in our community who need it most,” Anderson said. “What better way to give back to the community than to pull other community members together as one.”
BHS students and members of their town gathered in the gym and watched four volleyball teams compete for a chance to face a “celebrity guest team,” which turned out to be the Bears' varsity squad. The senior boys teams had four themes with the following four team names — Serving Time, Team USA, Tropic Thunder and The Heroes.
USA beat Serving Time and Tropic Thunder topped The Heroes, setting up the finale. There, crowd-favorite Team USA won before the varsity high school girls soundly defeated it.
Cloudt assessed the boys' skills before the matches even started.
“I'd say they're OK for the circumstances,” she said.
It wasn't good enough, though. Still, Tyler Andersen, Elias Cortez, Noah Ferguson, Carson Hernandez, Luke Ladwig, Steven Lundberg, Wyatt Ogle and Zyler Wyman of Team USA were the night's winners. They were coached by classmates Ashlyn Just and Aly Matney.
