Coach Erich Warner's Blair High School boys wrestling team finished 27th out of 41 scoring teams Friday and Saturday during the Council Bluffs Classic.
Senior Hudson Loges led the Bears at the Mid-America Center, claiming six wins in seven matches for a third-place finish at 138 pounds. The 2023 state champion won his first two bouts by technical fall before securing a 14-1 major decision against South Dakota wrestler Aaron Tucker and a second-period pin of Ames (Iowa) wrestler Braxton Winkey.
Loges then claimed his third technical fall of the tournament in the quarterfinals before an overtime loss to Aiden Smith of Atlantic (Iowa) during the semifinals. Bouncing back, the BHS standout won his third-place bout against Lincoln East's Noah Ingwersen by 1-0 decision.
Heavyweight Cornez Tucker Jr. earned a top-10 finish in Council Bluffs, too. The Bear claimed ninth with a 5-3 tournament record. He secured three of the Bears' four fastest pins of the weekend with the longest taking 48 seconds and the shortest taking just 33.
Tucker Jr. also earned a a tech fall during his ninth-place match, finishing off Lemars' Jaxen Hoag 19-3 just 50 seconds into the second period.
Twenty-first place Jaxon Logan — who wrestled a team-high nine matches during the Classic — tied his heavyweight teammate for the lead in tournament pins with three at 144 pounds. Wyatt Loftis (165 pounds) and Griffin Rosterman (175) added two falls apiece as they finished 11th and 15th, respectively, in their weight classes.
Blair's Tannon Bellamy was 16th at 120 pounds, too, but medically forfeited his last three bouts.
Bears Carson Faue (157 pounds) and Evan Kuchta (190) notched a win apiece in Council Bluffs as well, while Tate Horacek and Logan Sibson also wrestled as apart of Coach Warner's lineup.
Next, BHS competes today in a 6 p.m. dual at Columbus Lakeview. The Bears then begin Flatwater Fracas dual competition Friday at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.
