Blair High School's varsity basketball teams struggled Tuesday at Council Bluffs Lewis Central.
Coach Chris Whitwer's boys team fell 63-31 after coach Matt Aschoff's team suffered a 53-27 defeat. The Bears are 6-9 and 7-8 overall this season.
The BHS boys — who are just 1-5 since the start of 2024 — fell behind 15-8 after one quarter and 39-15 after just two. Crayton Macholan led the Bears in defeat with 12 points, while Bo Meier notched five.
Nash Paulson and Garret Rutledge led the Lewis Central boys with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
On the girls' side, Aschoff's Bears kept pace with the host Titans through one quarter. Freshman Gueryn Kay hit the first of her two 3-pointers during the opening period as Blair kept within 10-8.
From there, though, Lewis Central outscored its visitors by six points during the second period, seven in the third and 11 in the fourth to win by 26.
Kay finished with six points to lead BHS, while senior Leah Chance finished with four. Brooke Larsen, meanwhile, scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Titans.
Hurt by injuries, the Bears are just 1-5 since the start of the new year, too.
Both Blair basketball teams play at Seward on Saturday. The girls game starts at 2 p.m. before the boys' at 4.
