Leonard L. Poppert, 86, of Grand Island, Neb., passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, Neb.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is entrusted with the arrangements.

To honor his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service held. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2024 at Grand Island City Cemetery. Chaplain Michael Koenig will officiate the service.

In lieu of floral arrangements, memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Leonard was born Sept. 16, 1937 at Grand Island, Neb., to Edwin and Leila (Carr) Poppert. He grew up in Grand Island and attended school in Grand Island. For all of his life, he worked as a truck driver for many different trucking companies in the area.

He married and divorced. To this union, three daughters were born; Chris, Thea and Angela.

Leonard entered the United States Air Force in 1954 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

He enjoyed his work as a truck driver. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Leonard is survived by three daughters, Chris, Thea and Angela; several grandchildren and one great grandchild; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda & Dan Eberhardt of Grand Island and Evie and Tom Donnelly of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
