All nine Washington County high school representatives cut through the water in the Millard South pool on Tuesday night.
“Another fun meet in the books competing against a good team in Millard South,” Fremont coach David Struble said. “We won several individual events and relays.”
The Aquapats, however, won the dual. The girls earned a 116-64 win against the Tigers — and their Blair and Arlington swimmers — while the FHS boys dropped their dual, 100-700.
“We had another handful of auto state cuts in individual events and boys relays,” Struble reported. “Nice to see these autos come early in the season, while the kids' training is tough right now.”
BHS' Jane Busboom, notably, earned first in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.87 seconds. She also claimed second in the 100 butterfly, while classmate Ryleigh Schroeter took first during the 500 freestyle in 5:31.02 and secured third in the 100 breastroke.
Blair sophomore Kennedy Zehner was second in the both the individual 50-yard freestyle (26.66 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.11) as well.
The Tigers' Jacob Hanson, another Blair Bear, earned first in the 200 IM in 2:07.91. He was also first in two Fremont relays with Zayne Keslar, Micah Moore, Elliot Vech. They won the 200 freestyle team event in 1:34.35 and the 400 freestyle race in 3:28.71.
Busboom, Schroeter and Zehner won the 200-yard medley relay with Alexis Rasmussen in 1:59.71, too.
Busboom and BHS' Hannah Huenink were second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Rasmussen and Kami Spilinek as well, while Zehner, Huenink, Schroeter and Danna Jamaica were second in the 400 freestyle event.
Huenink also finished sixth in two individual events. Her teammate and Blair schoolmate, LeLah Filows, took home two sixth-place individual finishes as well.
AHS' Dathan Hansen, meanwhile, earned two second-place finishes at Millard South for the Fremont Tigers. He earned second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:09.51, and joined BHS' Mason Lau, Hanson and Garrett Nielsen for a second-place effort in the 200 medley relay.
Hansen also took third in the individual 500 freestyle and was fourth in the 200 freestyle relay with his teammates. Lau's best individual finish was sixth in the both the 50 and 100 freestyle races.
Eli Hansen, Dathan's brother, was on the 200 freestyle relay team, too. Additionally, the AHS student-athlete took second in the boys' diving event behind Millard South's Braxton Wright.
“Divers did great again, scoring big points for us,” Coach Struble said. “Getting more meet experience.”
Fremont closes out the 2024 portion of its schedule today and Saturday during the Elkhorn Invite at the Common Ground Community Center. Diving is today before an 8:30 a.m. swimming start Saturday.
