The Pioneers were Tuesday's runner-ups.
Under a clear sky in its hometown, the Fort Calhoun High School track and field team finished second in both the girls and boys standings. Coach Mandy Taylor's boys finished just eight points behind Douglas County West, while the girls tallied 19 less than Yutan.
The Pioneers earned eight first-place event finishes, though.
Senior Ely Olberding secured the most with three. The Calhoun standout was first in the 1,600-meter run in 4:45.05 and won the 3,200 in 10:27.65. He joined Seth Waters, Chris Post-Whiteowl and Will Dennis to win the 3,200 relay, too, with a time of 8:39.87.
Lance Olberding, meanwhile, won the 800 run in 2:09.87. He was 0.42 faster than AJ Arensberg of Yutan.
In the Unified long jump, FCHS partners Will Maxon and Gavin Welchert combined for a gold-medal finish. Their jumps added up to 26 feet, 4 inches.
Meanwhile, on the girls' side, the Pioneers' Kaylee Taylor swept the individual long and triple jump events. She cleared 15-10.5 in the long jump and 34-1 in triple, besting second-place teammate Ari Nelson by 1 foot, 7.25 inches in the latter.
Calhoun senior Dala Drowne, meanwhile, won the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds. Second-place Omaha Concordia sprinter Kyra McNair was 0.17 behind.
At the conclusion of the meet, the Pioneers posed together for a photo. The seniors sat on the grass in the front row with two soon-to-be graduates holding up the runner-up plaques.
