Caitlyn Haggstrom, Addy Nilges and Bailey Dingfield led the Blair tennis team Saturday during the Ralston Invite.
Haggstrom went 4-1 and finished fifth in No. 1 singles play, while Nilges and Dingfield were 3-1 at No. 2 doubles to claim third. Overall, coach Matt Aschoff's team claimed seventh during the 15-team event played at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha.
Haggstrom beat players from Kearney Catholic (6-1, 6-1), South Sioux City (9-7), Omaha Brownell-Talbot (8-3) and Elkhorn (9-7). Her lone stumble came to a Grand Island Central Catholic player, 6-1 and 6-1.
“Did very well today,” Aschoff said, noting comebacks in both her South Sioux City and Elkhorn matches.
Nilges and Dingfield, meanwhile, beat competition from Kearney Catholic, Crete and Bennington. The BHS duo bested Kearney Catholic with a 12-10, tie-breaking third set. It also topped the Badgers pairing despite falling behind 5-2.
In No. 2 singles play, the Bears' Anissa Delgado went 2-2 with wins against Crete and Omaha Gross competition. The doubles team of Maicy Lourens and Phoenixx Penke, meanwhile, went 0-2.
“Lots of good teams there today,” Aschoff said.
Blair next competes Thursday against Bennington back at the Koch Tennis Center. It faced Norris at home on Monday and results will appear in Friday's Washington County Enterprise.
