The Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame Foundation recognized the Arlington family of Larry and Sharon Graver on Sunday during its induction and awards ceremony at Lincoln East.
The late Gravers received the Fischer Family Award, an honor “based on efforts of several members of the same family, to include one, two or even three generations. Emphasis should be on the athletics prowess of the family, but can also be tied to coaching, officiating and making over-all contributions to high school sports,” according to the Hall's website.
The Graver children — Jeff, Terry, Lonnie and Shelli — have all earned individual hall of fame recognition through the years, too. Jeff is in the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame, Terry is in the high school hall for his noteworthy high school softball coaching career, and both Lonnie and Shelli have Arlington High School hall and wall of fame credits to their names.
Lonnie is in the Midland Warriors' hall as well.
Other Nebraska high school honorees Sunday in Lincoln included Kimera Bartee of Omaha Central, Sargent's Casey Beran, Jackie Brandt of Omaha Benson, Omaha Bryan's Reshea Bristol, K.K. Houser of Lincoln Southeast, Susan Johnson Hood of North Platte, Omaha Marian's Jennifer Kocsis Frees, Gina Mancuso-Prososki of Papillion-La Vista, Quentin Neujahr of Centennial, Millard South's Dale Ribble, Mark Traynowicz of Bellevue West and Omaha Burke's Tim Wurth.
Coaches receiving recognition were Falls City Sacred Heart's Doug Goltz, Grand Island's Dave Oman, Fred Petito of Millard North, Mimi Ramsbottom of Elkhorn South and Lincoln Southwest's Mark Watt.
Contributor Bill Fitzgerald of Fremont and Kearney official Jeff Wolf were honorees as well.
While the Gravers were the Fischer Family Award winners, Blair Dixon of Wauneta-Palisade took the “Great Moment” award, Scottsbluff cross-country took the “Dominant Dynasty” honor and Max Parker of Ashland-Greenwood was recognized as the Ron Gustafson Inspirational Award winner.
The Golden Anniversary Team was the 1974 Lincoln East football team, while the 1999 Omaha Gross volleyball champs were the Silver Anniversary Team.
