The Blair High School football team started off the week’s slate of the Washington County games a day early Thursday before both Arlington and Fort Calhoun won on Friday.

Bears fall at Gretna
Class B No. 6 Gretna and Blair combined for six turnovers Thursday, but it was the Dragons who pulled out the 28-14 home victory with three interceptions of the Bears.
BHS, however, led 7-0 during the first quarter and pulled within 21-14 in the fourth on Blaise Baughman touchdowns. The senior first caught a 14-yard scoring pass from Brevin Leggott before taking off on a 55-yard touchdown run.
Gretna responded to Baughman’s second touchdown with its fourth of the game, clinching the victory. While the Dragons had two touchdown pass competitions, they also had throws intercepted by the Bears’ Nate Murray and Andrew Korth. Israel Tinoco also recovered a loose ball booted and lost by Gretna’s kickoff return team.
The 0-3 Bears next compete 7 p.m. Sept. 19 in their homecoming game against Norris.

Pioneers rout Boys Town
Five different FCHS football players scored touchdowns Friday as the Pioneers routed Boys Town on the road, 43-8.
Coach Zach Byrd’s team jumped out to a 22-point lead, led 29-8 through two and three quarters, and added 15 points during the fourth. It is now 3-0 with a homecoming game against Pierce up next on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
Calhoun senior Blake Welchert scored two touchdowns and threw for a third against the Cowboys, while Kaiden Rodriguez, Kade Foy, Chase Bierman and Connor Hart scored one apiece. Quarterback Adam Elofson, notably, threw for three of his team’s scores.
Defensively, the Pioneers’ Logan Brewer came through for the second-straight week, intercepting a Boys Town pass and covering a short kick for a free possession.

Eagles improve to 2-1
Karson Foust forced the last of Raymond Central six fumbles Friday night as the Arlington Eagles held off the Mustangs, 22-14.
Coach Troy Schlueter’s team improved to 2-1 with the win and will play at Norfolk Catholic on Sept. 19. It led 16-0 at halftime against Raymond Central with quarterback Owen Ladehoff throwing touchdown passes to both Luke Sharp and Parker Robinson.
When the Mustangs — who lost four of the aforementioned fumbles — pulled within 16-8 during the third quarter, Ladehoff scored a touchdown on foot in the fourth to push the lead back out to 14 points.
Raymond Central had an opportunity to even the score late, but Ben Flesner picked up the fumbled forced by Foust to all but end the threat.
