The Fort Calhoun Pioneers won their homecoming game, the Blair Bears fell short in their’s and Arlington dropped a road matchup Friday night.
No. 9 Pioneers beat 6th-ranked Pierce
The Class C1 No. 9 Pioneers held off No. 6 Pierce on Friday, 28-21.
FCHS’ Ray Caruso and Chase Bierman combined on the stop that ended Pierce’s final drive, tackling the Bluejays’ quarterback to the turf and, ultimately, forcing any remaining time on the clock to run out.
The Pioneers had previously built a 28-14 lead through 3.5 quarters. Kaiden Rodriguez scored touchdowns on runs of 72 and 1 yards during the game, while Kade Foy caught a 14-yard scoring pass from quarterback Adam Elofson on the final play of the first half.
Blake Welchert scored a touchdown, too, capitalizing on a 43-yard pass from his QB.
Calhoun is 4-0, while Pierce dropped to 3-1 in defeat. The Pioneers next play at Elkhorn Mount Michael on Sept. 26.
No. 2 Norris tops Blair
The Class B No. 2 Norris Titans beat Blair at Krantz Field on Friday night, 31-7.
The Titans (4-0 overall) led 14-0 after one quarter and 21-0 at halftime. The 0-4 Bears, however, scored the final points of the homecoming game when quarterback Brevin Leggott connected on a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Luke Donner.
BHS next competes Sept. 26 against No. 1 Elkhorn North back at Krantz Field.
Eagles drop road game by 28
Both Arlington and Class C2 No. 4 Norfolk Catholic entered Friday’s game with 2-1 records, but the Eagles dropped to 2-2 with a 35-7 loss.
AHS trailed 28-0 at halftime, but played an even, 7-7 second half against the Knights with Owen Ladehoff scoring its lone touchdown. The Eagles next play their homecoming game against David City Aquinas on Sept. 26.
