The regular season ended Friday night for the Arlington, Blair and Fort Calhoun high school football teams.
The Eagles won at home with a goal line stand, the Bears fell to Class B No. 2 Omaha Skutt and the Pioneers dropped a close game to Douglas County West. Even indefeat, FCHS advances onto the Class C1 playoffs. It'll play at Central City on Friday. No start time has been announced as of 11 a.m. Saturday.
Arlington 20, Fremont Bergan 14: Senior Trent Koger drug a Bergan Knight runner down behind the line of scrimmage on 4th-down and goal play from the 1-yard-line, securing the Eagles’ victory in the final seconds. AHS quarterback Owen Ladehoff, meanwhile, connected with Luke Sharp for an 18-yard touchdown pass to take the lead with just 1:57 left in the game. Coach Troy Schlueter’s team finishes the season 4-5 after winning its last two games of the season.
No. 2 Omaha Skutt 42, Blair 28: BHS senior quarterback Cooper Sorensen connected on touchdown passes of 12, 75 and 51 yards against the Skyhawks, but it wasn’t enough at home. The Bears finish the season 2-7 overall despite touchdown catches by Andrew Smutny and Hayden Daggett, and a Blaise Baughman scoring run.
Douglas County West 20, No. 10 Fort Calhoun 16: The Falcons scored the go-ahead points with less than 60 seconds left in Friday night’s game. The loss dropped FCHS to 6-3 overall. Blake Welchert scored two Pioneer touchdowns Friday in defeat. Chase Bierman hit a 30-yard field goal, too.
