The Fremont High School swim team earned a triangular sweep to start the season Thursday evening in Lincoln.
The Tiger boys topped Lincoln Standing Bear 96-59 and Columbus 99-36, while the girls earned 113-56 and 119-40 victories against the Grizzlies and Discoverers, respectively. Coach David Struble's team won all about one event during the opener.
“A lot of our veteran swimmers won their events with our new JV swimmers doing amazing for their first high school meet ever,” he said.
Blair and Arlington swimmers made a notable impact for FHS. Firstly, they contributed to all six relay victories.
Jane Busboom and Kennedy Zehner of Blair won the 200-yard medley relay with Kami Spilinek and Alexis Rasmussen, while Arlington's Dathan Hansen won the boys' version of the event alongside Zayne Keslar, Elliot Vech and Garrett Nielsen.
In the 200 freestyle relay, BHS' Ryleigh Schroeter, Hannah Huenink and Zehner combined with Spilinek, while Hansen and Bear Jacob Hanson won their race with Micah Moore and Vech.
Busboom, Huenink and Schroeter won the 400 freestyle team race with Danna Jamaica, too, while Hanson, Moore, Nielsen and Keslar won the boys' event.
Individually, Busboom, Schroeter, Zehner and Hanson won two events apiece. Busboom claimed the 200 IM (2:24.01) and 100 freestyle (55.67), while Schroeter earned top honors in the 200 freestyle (2:01.34) and 100 backstroke (1:03.17).
The 50-yard freestyle girls race belonged to Zehner in 27 seconds as did the 100 butterfly in 1:11.63.
Hanson, meanwhile, won both the boys 100 freestyle (50.41) and 100 backstroke (1:02.77).
Hansen, Huenink and Blair's Mason Lau added second-place results, too. Hansen took silver in the 50 freestyle, while Huenink and Lau claimed their's in the 100 backstroke races.
AHS' Eli Hansen took his top finish in the 1-meter diving event, securing third. LeLah Filows of Blair, however, took part in a fourth-place 200-yard freestyle effort for the Tigers.
Fremont next competes today at home against the Norfolk Panthers in the Dillon Family Aquatics Center pool. Diving starts at 4:30 p.m.
