Youth basketball players play 'Storm the Fort' games
Youth Fort Calhoun basketball players, parents and coaches hosted the fourth annual Storm the Fort tournament last Saturday and Sunday.
Boys and girls played games, picking up home victories along the way. A seventh-grade Calhoun girls hoops team went 2-0 according to its tourneymachine.com bracket, while the third-grade girls earned a 1-2 record. The fifth-graders went 0-3, while both the Orange and Black fourth-grade teams started 1-0 Saturday.
A Blair girls team in the fifth- and sixth-grade division also went 1-2.
On the boys' side, the Fort Calhoun sixth-grade Black squad earned a 2-1 record. The Orange team was 1-2, too, while the Blair White team in the age group went 0-2.
In fifth-grade boys play, three Fort Calhoun Youth Sports Organization (FCYSO) teams combined to go 2-5 during the Storm the Fort event. The Orange team was 1-1, the Black went 1-2 and the White team was 0-2.
The fourth-grade Black team won a Saturday game, too, while the Orange squad went 0-2. The Calhoun third-grade group earned a 1-2 record as well, while a Blair Purple team finished 0-3.

Tjardes completes freshman XC season
Nebraska Wesleyan freshman Lawson Tjardes recently capped his first college cross-country season at the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championships on Nov. 16.
The Fort Calhoun High School graduate earned 117th at the event, clocking in at 27:17.2 across 8 kilometers.
Tjardes ran five races altogether during his first season post-FCHS, earning his season-best time during the Dan Huston Invitational. He finished the 8K race 51st overall, securing a time of just 27:00.2.
Previously, a fall college sports roundup of Washington County student-athletes was published Nov. 19. Tjardes was not noted in it in error.
