Ella Bouwman and the Fort Calhoun girls basketball team turned it up offensively during the fourth period Dec. 20, pushing their unbeaten streak to six games.
The Pioneers outscored the David City Scouts 23-10 during the final quarter, extending a one-point lead into a 49-35 victory. While coach Eric Jones' squad moved to 6-0, the Scouts dropped to 3-3 in defeat.
Bouwman, a junior guard, led FCHS' late onslaught with three of her four 3-point makes. She finished with 12 points overall, while sophomore Raeann Massey had 11 after her own seven-point final quarter.
Ansley Elofson scored six fourth-period points, too, finishing with 11 overall. Maelie Nelson, however, scored all seven of the Pioneers' points during the opening period and finished with nine.
David City's Kamryn Behrns, meanwhile, led all scorers with 17 points in defeat.
Fort Calhoun celebrated its 2005 state runner-up basketball team during the game — it's last before the holiday break. The Pioneers next compete Monday when they host Ralston at 1 p.m.
