After an 8-0 start to the season, the Fort Calhoun girls basketball team lost its second-consecutive game Tuesday at home against West Point-Beemer.
Before the Cadets bested the Pioneer boys by 10, the girls knocked off Class C1 No. 9 FCHS 56-37. West Point (8-3 overall) played an even first quarter against coach Eric Jones' squad before taking a 10 point lead into halftime. The advantage grew from there as Calhoun dropped to 8-2.
Jones said his squad fought illness during the game with one player even going home at halftime. The Pioneers, who were led by Raeann Massey's 14 points in defeat, were scheduled play Thursday at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and next compete 2:30 p.m. Saturday at home against Wisner-Pilger.

Cadets top FCHS boys
The Fort Calhoun boys basketball team dropped to 2-7 Tuesday, but not until after hanging with 8-3 West Point Beemer for four quarters.
The Cadets ultimately won by double-digits, 63-53, but led just 12-10 after one period and 34-30 at halftime. Their leading scorer, Peyton Penrose scored 24 points in victory.
FCHS' Adam Elofson, meanwhile, led four Pioneers in double-figures with 13 points. He scored in every period, contributing a 3-point make during the first.
Eli Tinkham, Travis Skelton and Dylan Keyser each scored 11 points for coach TJ O'Connor's squad. The Pioneers were scheduled to compete Thursday at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and next compete 4 p.m. Saturday at home against Wisner-Pilger.
