The Fort Calhoun volleyball team's struggles to win in October continued Monday.
Coach Liz Sevcik's Pioneers finished fourth out of four teams during a Syracuse tournament, dropping 0-2 matches to both Omaha Gross and the host Rockets. The losses dropped FCHS to 0-7 in October and 8-13 overall.
The Pioneers' closest set of the night came against Gross. Trailing 1-0, Coach Sevcik's team took a 15-14 advantage during the second with a 4-0 run. Ansley Elofson's ace serve pulled Calhoun within 14-13 before back-to-back Thayer-Mencke kills gave her team the lead.
After Gross took the second-set lead back, the Pioneers pulled even at 22-22. It was the last point FCHS would score, though as the Cougars finished off the 25-19, 25-22 sweep.
Syracuse, meanwhile, won its match with Fort Calhoun 25-19, 25-12.
Coach Sevcik's squad was scheduled to compete during a Yutan triangular on Thursday and next plays Tuesday at home against Conestoga.
