Two days before its scheduled season opener, the Fort Calhoun softball team lost an 8-4 Jamboree exhibition game Tuesday at Tekamah-Herman.
Coach Mandy Taylor's lineup led 3-1 at one point, but was outscored 7-1 from there. It was scheduled to officially open its season Thursday against West Point GACC and next plays Saturday at a North Bend Central tournament.
Against the Tigers, though, the Pioneers scored early. After a Kaylee Taylor lead-off triple, Sam Brewer and Kaitlyn Welchert scored on Tekamah miscues in the first inning, according to the team's GameChanger stat-keeping program.
Ahead 2-1, FCHS then scored another run during the third frame. Taylor notched a one-out single before Brewer produced an RBI groundout.
Finally, during the fourth, the Pioneers scored their final run to cut a two-run deficit to a 5-4 disadvantage. Lucie Larsen and Anna Taylor hit a single and double, respectively, before Adriana Hernandez notched a sac fly.
