Fort Calhoun High School senior Kaylee Taylor is getting ready for basketball season at the moment.
She also just wrapped up a Class C all-state level softball season.
On Thursday, though, the three-time NSAA State Track & Field Championships qualifier celebrated her college signing to the Nebraska Wesleyan track and field program.
“I've just grown to love track over the last four years and have found great success in that,” Taylor said.
The multi-sport athlete has attended multiple track and field camps at the Lincoln school and enjoyed her visit this past August, which, ultimately, sealed the deal.
“Just loved it there,” Taylor explained.
The Pioneer has earned her spot at three-straight Omaha Burke state meets since her first trip as a freshman in 2022. She finished 12th in the Class B triple jump twice before earning her best result this past May. Her 34-foot, 7-inch jump was good for 10th in the state.
Also this past spring, Taylor ran her first race in Omaha during the championship event. She earned 17th in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking in at 49.09 seconds.
Now, the FCHS standout will have even more opportunity to improve after one more prep season with her mother, head track coach Mandy Taylor.
“I'm very excited and very hopeful for the next four years getting to compete further,” Kaylee said. “Just very excited for all of the new people I'll get to meet, and the different competition I'll get to see and be apart of.”
The senior — who's twin sister Anna recently signed to play softball at Morningside University — has simple goals for college career at Nebraska Wesleyan. She wants to improve and have fun doing it.
With high school hoops and track still ahead, though, Taylor said wants to leave behind a legacy and “be a positive leader.” She said it all with a smile, wearing a Prairie Wolves track and field shirt.
